Abstract

The paper aimed at finding the perception of library users on the use of electronic information resources in selected tertiary institution libraries in Kano Metropolis. The secondary population of the study comprised the entire seventeen (17) tertiary institutions libraries within Kano metropolis, out of which eight (8) of the libraries were found to have the availability of electronic information resources, hence were used as a sample of the study. Data was collected from a sample of (400) users calculated from a population of (40,948) registered users of the libraries using Taro Yamane (1967)’ formula. Quantitative research methodology, using a cross-sectional survey design was used. A questionnaire was used as an instrument to collect relevant data for the study and was distributed to the entire sample, out of which 358 (89.5%) were returned and found usable for the analysis. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics through the use of frequencies and percentages for decision-making. Regarding the students’ perception of library users on the use of electronic information resources, findings reveal that majority of the users perceived that electronic information resources are valuable. They equally perceived that electronic information resources increase their access to the information within and outside the library. The study then recommends the tertiary institution libraries in Kano metropolis should provide more EIRs to meet the information needs of the users. Improvement should be made on the existing EIRs, the libraries should enhance the facilities to search and retrieve the desired information easily and more precisely to the users.
