Information Needs of Final Year Secondary School Students in Selected Schools in Dutsin-Ma Zonal Education Quality Assurance

This study was carried out to examine the Information Needs of Final Year Secondary School Students in Selected Secondary Schools in Dutsinma Zonal Education Quality Assurance, Katsina State, Nigeria. Survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consists of all the final year secondary school students in the selected schools giving a total of 416 students. Out of 416 questionnaires distributed to the respondents, 387 were duly returned and found usable for the study. Data is analysed using simple percentages and mean. The results of the study revealed that information needs of final year secondary school students include educational information, health information, career choice, peer group information among others. Their sources of information include information through friends, asking questions, reading books. The purpose of seeking information includes examination, educational development, and career choice. The study concludes that the secondary school students in Dutsin-Ma Zonal Education Quality Assurance need information for their education, health, career choice, etc. They need this information for examination, educational development, career choice, etc. Some of the problems militating against secondary school students towards meeting their information needs include but are not limited to poor library skills, unavailability of information resources, inadequate library resources, outdated library resources among other problems
